0 On August 30, 2025, the SPOGOMI World Cup 2025 Canada Qualifier took place at the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites, bringing together enthusiastic teams from across the region to compete in an exciting litter-picking competition with a global stage in sight.
A Record-Breaking Cleanup Effort
This year, 12 teams participated in the national qualifier. In just one hour, they managed to collect an impressive 263.37 kg of litter—a powerful reminder of how much impact a motivated community can have in such a short time.
Les grand champions were once again The Wastemans, the defending champions from 2023. They amazed everyone by collecting a staggering 67.62 kg, averaging 22.54 kg per person, and successfully defended their title. With this victory, they earned the honor of representing Canada at the SPOGOMI World Cup 2025 in Japan, where they will compete against champions from over 30 countries worldwide.
Prizes and Celebration
To recognize everyone’s effort, numerous prizes were distributed throughout the event. Alongside smaller giveaways, participants and volunteers had the chance to win exciting raffle prizes, including walking pads, mini karaoke machines, and ergonomic keyboards. These rewards helped create a celebratory atmosphere, ensuring that every individual’s contribution—whether competing on the field or supporting behind the scenes—was valued and remembered.

Looking Ahead
The excitement doesn’t stop here. On October 29, 2025, Canada’s champions, The Wastemans, will join national winners from around the globe to compete at the SPOGOMI World Cup 2025 in Japan. This international stage will showcase the world’s best teams in the sport of litter-picking, uniting communities through competition and environmental action.
Looking further ahead, SPOGOMI Canada is planning to host more events in 2026, with a focus on social and casual competitions. These smaller-scale gatherings will help bring the spirit of SPOGOMI into local communities and schools.
